Clay alternatives for staffing and recruiting firms
By Drippay, Inc.Published 8 min read
Clay is a go-to-market data platform. You build tables, pull data from many providers, run AI research on each row, and send the result to your CRM or an outreach tool. It is flexible, and it assumes someone on your team will build and maintain the workflows. Staffing firms often look at Clay when they want better client lists, and then look for alternatives when they find they need a builder.
Vendor facts are from Clay’s own pages, checked October 6, 2026, and its numbers are its claims. Disclosure: we build dreach, a managed service for staffing and recruiting firms. dreach is not a data tool you configure and not a generic contact database. It delivers finished job-order leads on employers, and we say where that does and does not fit below.
while you compare
dreach shows the client ledger.
Your team decides who to contact.
the short version
- Keep Clay if you have an operator who likes building enrichment workflows, you want many data providers behind one table, and you need custom logic that a packaged tool will not give you.
- Choose Apollo or Lusha if you want a database with a simple search box and outreach attached, and do not want to build tables.
- Choose Cognism or ZoomInfo if you want a sales-led data package with signals and a vendor that owns data quality.
- Consider dreach if you do not want to build anything and the target is already your own clients and employers like them, with a hiring manager and a warm way in on each lead.
What Clay does, from its own site
Clay’s site describes a data marketplace with 200+ providers, waterfall enrichment that combines several providers for coverage, signals and intent tracking such as job changes, AI research agents it calls Claygents, workflow orchestration, a native email sequencer, and syncs to ad platforms and CRMs. Its pricing page cites 150+ data partners.
The model is a spreadsheet-like table where each row is a company or person and each column runs an enrichment, an AI step, or an export. That is powerful for a team that thinks in workflows. It is a lot of setup for a recruiting desk that wants a list of employers ready to call.
Clay pricing, as published
Clay charges for two things: Data Credits, which buy data from its partners, and Actions, which meter the platform work. Its pricing page says Data Credits start at $0.05 each and Actions start under one cent. Unused Data Credits roll over up to twice the monthly amount on Launch and Growth. Actions do not roll over. Bringing your own provider keys skips Data Credits and still uses Actions.
| Plan | Listed price | What it lists |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 100 Data Credits and 500 Actions per month, up to 200 rows per table |
| Launch | Starting at $185 per month | 2,500 Data Credits, phone enrichment, job change and signal tracking, up to 50,000 rows per table |
| Growth | Starting at $495 per month | 6,000 Data Credits and 40,000 Actions, CRM auto-sync, HTTP API and webhooks, priority support |
| Enterprise | Custom, annual commitment | SSO, API access, data warehouse syncs, custom limits |
When Clay is the better choice
Clay is a tool for people who build. If that is your team, it is hard to match for flexibility.
- You have an operations or revenue-ops person who will own the tables and keep them working.
- You want to combine several data vendors and your own CRM data in one flow.
- Your targeting is unusual enough that a packaged search will not express it.
- You are comfortable budgeting on two meters, credits and actions, and watching them.

The hidden cost of build-it-yourself
A flexible tool moves cost from the invoice to the calendar. Someone has to decide which providers to chain, write the AI prompts, fix rows that fail, and keep the output in sync with your CRM. For a revenue-ops team that is the job. For a ten-person agency it often is not.
Before you buy, write down who will own the tables in month three, and how many hours a week that takes. If the answer is nobody, a packaged tool or a managed service is the cheaper path even at a higher sticker price.
Where dreach fits, and where it does not
dreach is a managed service for staffing and recruiting firms. It finds employers about to hire, including past clients hiring again. Each lead names the hiring manager, confirmed in the job, with a current email and phone, and the warmest way in: a current or past client, a person your firm placed, or a contact your team authorizes.
Outreach runs from your firm’s own LinkedIn and email accounts, and your team keeps the client. Pricing is a monthly minimum credited against a fee on results, agreed before launch.
dreach is not a data platform you configure, and it is not a generic contact database. It will not replace Clay if your goal is a custom enrichment pipeline for another purpose. It fits when the output you want is a worked lead on an employer for a job order.

How to choose
Three questions. Who builds and maintains the workflow? Which data do you actually need: people, companies, or signals? And is the real goal a list, or a conversation with the hiring manager? Run a sample of ten employers you know through each option and count the ones where the contact was current and the person owned the hire.
Clay is a strong choice for a team that wants to build its own data workflows and has the person to run them. Staffing desks that want finished leads without building anything have simpler options. If the targets are your own clients and employers like them, dreach delivers the lead and runs from your accounts.
